The primary purpose of this article is to give dog lovers a directory of all of the movies that have either their favorite breed(s) or dogs in general. I am listing all movies that I can find that either 1) has a dog as a major character in the movie, whether mixed breed or purebred and 2) movies the have a purebred dog in it, even if just a glimpse
These results have come from many different sources. I cannot guarantee the accuracy of these results. I try very hard to keep the facts as accurate as possible, but this is not always possible. In order to present the most accurate results possible, I have italicized all movies that I personally have not been able to review and confirm. Movies that are italicized are most probably accurate, I just cannot personally confirm it, but many people can and have. To the best of my knowledge, all of the breeds/movies are accurate. That is my disclaimer. There is no reason that they should be wrong, I just personally cannot guarantee that all the facts are right for movies that are italicized.
Movies in bold with no link are not available. Oftentimes they are 1) very rare or 2) have never been released to video, which includes movies still at the theaters, usually soon to be released as well as movies that are very old and the original was lost or occasionally are aired on TV.
Enjoy!

Then when I actually saw the movie, I realized that I don’t think it was a whippet, unless it was a rather old fashioned kind with no tail. Maybe some kind of rat terrier? (1935) RATED PG

- Lucky the Outcast about a war dog. Possibly an “old-fashioned” Airedale, more likely a mutt.
- Lure of the Wild starring Lightning (1925)
- Madeline which has a retriever dog in it that I can’t tell if it is a Labrador or Golden Retriever. It has that whitish yellow coat that isn’t really acceptable (show wise) for either breed. The coat length seems to be between lengths. Every other time I look at it looks like the other breed. To me it looks slightly more like a Lab, but I think they call it a Golden, just once and briefly, in the movie. If they were trying to make it like the book, and the book had a Golden, that would be good reason to call a Labrador a Golden Retriever, but then, maybe it is a Golden Retriever. You decide. (1998) RATED PG
- The Magic of Lassie (collie) (1978)

- Mr. Superinvisible I can’t be sure about this, but I think that it is some sort of sequel to the Shaggy D.A. It stars the same guy (Dean Jones) Another place that I heard about it, it mentions some sort of “Shaggy Dog”. At BigStar it mentions a Sheepdog. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that there is a Old English Sheepdog in this movie (1973)
- Murder, She Purred OK, I’m not sure of the name of this movie. It might have been “Murder, She Purred”. It was based on the “Sneaky Pie Brown” mystery book series. It aired on the “Wonderful World of Disney” I don’t know if it has come out to video or not, but it has a really cute Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Also some foxhounds.
